I am almost at the end of the road when it comes to this series. It is very upsetting as I have grown to really love it and reading has become a part of my daily routine.
Tourists and natives trolling bars and the scenic places that make up the French Quarter are being hunted. A mutilator intent on gathering trophies made up of swatches of skin laden with tattoos and scars is the hunter. The victims, left drugged but alive, are unable to help the police with a description of the perpetrator. With no clues and a serial criminal at large, the local police have no choice but to turn to the Serial Crimes Tracking Unit.
The Serial Crimes Tracking Unit, better known as SCTU, is used to dealing with dead bodies, so they are unsure their hunting skills will be useful. While the perpetrator might fit a profile, the living are of little help. After all, they don’t even remember being attacked. Dealing with the living, especially those who have been victimized has never been a strong point of Aislinn Cain’s. As Aislinn and her team go to work at solving this case, they find themselves in a race against the clock. It is only a matter of time before their serial mutilator escalates into a serial killer.
This book was a bit different for me because as it said, they were hunting a person who has not yet killed any of their victims, and when they did end up escalating it was a shock to everyone. Since 99% of the victims lived, it was also a harder case to investigate plus a whole bunch of other things decided to come up in the duration of this book as well which lead to the events that happened in book 11.
What was also different about this book is it ended just like Mercurial Dreams which could be either good or band depending on which way you want to take it. I feel that there is no issue in switching up the way that the story ends, it keeps readers like me on their toes and asking a lot of questions.
I am pretty sure that this was book 10 & as I write this, I am on book 12. I did some research and found out that the author just finished what I think could be book 13 which she plans to name Demonic Dreams. I am not 100% sure if I want to read anything else from this author for the simple fact that I am so attached to these characters and building that knowledge and trust isn’t always fun as I have been reading this series for almost 2 months now which is really long for me.
